Who are we

The team at UKGIM have put together this national conference in response to the paucity of General Medical CPD for consultants and physicians in the training grades.

They recognise that the recent explosion of multimorbidity means many medical inpatients and outpatients have true GIM needs rather than organ-specific, highly specialist ones. UKGIM is designed to support the educational needs of clinicians working in the specialties that deal with GIM patients. The team is headed by our two medical directors who personally vet the conference content to ensure it is highly relevant for all delegates.

Meet the team

Dr Adam Wheldon

is a consultant Geriatrician at Poole Hospital NHS Trust. He is experienced in Acute Geriatrics, Falls services, Parkinsons services and Orthogeriatrics. He is a member of the British Geriatrics Society and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. Adam considers himself a true general physician and is convinced that recent demographic changes demand that all physicians involved in the care of GIM patients have as broad a knowledge base as possible in order to underpin the holistic care that such patients require. Outside work Adam can be found spending time with his young family, competing in triathlons and showing off his wakeboarding skills!

Dr Tom Caudell

is a GP Partner and Medical Educator in Bournemouth. He trains registrars on the Wessex postgraduate training scheme, is an Appraiser, and sits as an elected member of the Dorset Local Medical Committee. He has special interests in diabetes, minor surgery and musculoskeletal medicine. From his primary care perspective he finds it extremely helpful when able to refer patients to secondary care doctors who are confident managing multi-system problems and, like Adam, is passionate about the need to support holistic care by way of good CPD. To wind down, Tom swims most days, and likes spending time out on the water on his boat, when not running round after his two sons!
